The team made it to the QUARTER FINALS of State Cup
After winning one of the most difficult preliminary groups, the boys continued their successful end to the season with 2 great games this weekend in Lancaster.
First game, they met an old rival, Arsenal FC-S. It was just like all the games against this team, tough and hard fought... and this time the game had a dramatic ending to the regulation time, with Arsenal tying at 1-1 with one minute left. But the boys showed amazing resiliency, and were able to pick themselves up in overtime, and come back to score one more goal to advance to the quarter final game.
Being the only Non GOLD team in the quarterfinals, the boys came in as underdogs against the CELTICS ( a gold team, that had just beaten the League Cup champions). Not intimdated by their oponents, WCFC boys came out firing on all cilinders, and had several scoring chances in the first 10 minutes of the game, and many more thereafter. But a very good oposing keeper, and maybe a bit of Scottish Luck, kept the scoresheet blank through regulation. Even though both teams were playing their second overtime game of the day, it proved to be a very dynamic and fast paced game (or maybe the temperature in the low 40s had something to do with it too). In the end, a quick Celtic breakaway, produced the only goal of the encouter, with minutes before the end...
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WCFC BOYS FOR A GREAT RUN IN STATE CUP, AND A WONDERFUL SEASON.
